Call for participants

News

We are looking for participants who would like to be interviewed for this project.

Craft Expertise is a 2-year Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project in collaboration with Crafts Council UK, which is exploring and seeking to address inequalities in the craft sector. The project lead, Dr Karen Patel of Birmingham City University, is looking for makers who identify as female and from a black or minority ethnic (BAME) background to take part in the research. This will involve an interview about the maker’s journey into craft, their social media use (if applicable) and the specific challenges they have faced in trying to establish a career in craft. There is also an opportunity for participants to be part of a podcast series if they choose, which will be published on the Crafts Council website and the project website. Next year we are running a free social media workshop in Birmingham which participants will be invited to.

This follows on from a successful 12-month  research project with Crafts Council UK, more information about that, including initial findings published in a report, can be found here: https://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/articles/how-do-diverse-makers-use-social-media/.

If you are interested and would like to know more please email karen.patel@bcu.ac.uk.
